Read the textile industry sustainability report. vol.8
Sep 09, 2021
I would like to study the current situation of the textile industry in Japan by reading the report of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, "Blueprint for a New Era" July 2021.
Deepen your understanding by commenting and supplementing excerpts from the report. I would like to read on in style. thank you.
This is the continuation of vol.7.
3. Gender Equality (1) Background SDG5 states, “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” The active participation of diverse human resources, including women, can lead to the creation of innovation. One study found that companies with more women in leadership positions could create 27% more value than companies with fewer women. In Japan, women's wages are about 26% lower than men's wages, and the percentage of women in management positions is about 90% for men and about 10% for women. According to data, men spend 41 minutes a day on housework and childcare, while women spend 3 hours and 44 minutes on it.
It is necessary for men to actively take care of housework and childcare. If you work for 2 hours a day, it seems to be even. I want to incorporate it into myself.
(2) Current status While the percentage of women among all workers is 44.5%, 58.5% of women are employed in factories in the textile industry, and 72.6% of women are employed in apparel and retail. The ratio of female workers is higher than in all industries. On the other hand, the ratio of female executives is 6.0% for all companies listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and 4.3% for textile-related companies, which is lower than the overall average. There are issues such as creating an environment where women can work comfortably and supporting women's careers, and it is important for the public and private sectors to work together.
I find it unnatural that the percentage of female executives in the textile industry is low. Since the percentage of women in the field is high, it is natural that the percentage of executives should also be high.
Today is up to here.
thank you very much.
